religious connections

Pleeease forgive me (i'm asking in advance) for any facts that I may have mixed up here...I am just learning about all of this stuff!
I was reading a book about the Four Noble Truths (in the buddhist religion) and one type of suffering they talk about is Suffering of change...this means we eventually will experience suffering from the things that bring us joy in the present. Whether it is a car, house, person, etc. -- And it really is true although I would rather experience the pain and suffering of losing a loved one then never knowing and loving them in the 1st place! But what I understand of buddhist religion, in general (I know it gets complicated) but the whole point is to rid yourself completely of suffering. And everything is based on cause and effect (karma) And I realized this connects religions in a strange way.(like many things) -- monks and the catholic preists, etc are similar in the way that they never marry and dont have children -- in the buddhist religion this is probably to eliminate cause and effect of suffering of change (at least with people) and the catholic preists do this because they are married to God, or closer to God. Its just funny to me that religions have so many similarities but that cant seem to come together....i mean who cares if you dont think the exact same -- the whole point is the same -- everyone wants to lead the same kind of life. And I want to take a little bit of each religion I have learned about and use it in my life....they all have such good intentions, its funny/sad most people dont live out some of the things in there religion that could actually change there lives! (People are afraid of change I guess)
You know, I have no clue why I am posting this, I guess I just want to get out what is in my head! Maybe someone else wants to add their 2 cents! Or maybe even make sense of my thoughts--I would appreciate it. Sorry if this is so long and kinda pointless.
Love, Amy

Lucy, pointless? NOT In our house I read the Bible daily, I meditate with candles and a Muslim prayer rug, I have a tantra from Buddhism for Health, and I cook Challah (a Jewish bread) on the full moon. We are more alike than we both knew. I've been taking a little bit of culture from each religion (the candles are from my years practicing WICCAn) and they seem to all "fit" in my soul. Yes, there all .... so much alike. Love,Carolyn

Lucy,

I am seeing people willingly allowing others to tie them up with one kind of 'truth', and then be 'untied' or 'saved' with another kind of 'truth', available, of course, from the same group.

For example, 'accepted that you are a sinner and then follow Jesus's path so that you can be 'saved' type of arguement'.

I agree that are many good things in many religions, and I agree with the approach 'take what you think works best for you out of each religion and discard the rest.'

Think and feel really hard, 'Am I really that bad or wrong in life ?' Who is really judging me here, 'God or Allah or Buddha ...... or Me Myself ?'

Personally, I refused to allow myself be condemned by those who just outnumbered us. The majority is not always 'awake'. History has shown us that it only takes one or two individuals with brains to cook up seemingly right theories and the masses will follow. These theories usually take advantages of two major human fallacies such as greed and fear (insecurity).

For one thing, it is a lot easier to buy ready-made fast food than to cook yourself.

For me, I prefer to cook myself. No, I don't grow the vegatables in my backyard, because I haven't got one. But I am sure you know what I mean.

I often ask, 'Freed ? From what ?' when approached by certain religious groups.

My favourite question to these folk is 'How do you know .....?' these days. Most of them turn out to be copycats.

But almost all of the regular users of this forum, I have found, are people with their own say. This is what I call originality. They said things base on their own personal experience.

Have to say they earned my respect .

Lucy, keep going, be a truly great explorer.

With love,
Seeker

Lucy,
I grew up in a religion that didn't believe in medical care AT ALL...Not even novicane at the dentist. I suffered SOOOO MUCH as a child and into my adult hood. All in the name of being a spiritual person and not a Material one...I have a lot of resentmet to that particular religion..HOWEVER there were things there that make sense and are very similar to the path I've started in Spirituality. I don't believe the founder was completely wrong...just mis-guided.

So even out of something that was very painful and scary to me as a child..there is some good!

Hang in there..and follow your heart!

He who laughs.....lasts!

Love and Light,
Lori

Personally, I think all religions, all types of religion are all going for the same place
"HOME"
where ever that may be for some is their choice, for me it is back in the stars...............
where I came from, how earth was made.........

a thought
a process
a delightful experience
none the less

religion is what it is meant to be
a place to find our common ground with one another.
I am sure my friends that go to church, meditate, and or just are,
will indeed meet me on the other side, one way or the other.
we are all going the same place..............
HOME
with love within the light and with spirit

To love is to share our light with everyone
To evolve.......is to remember " home"

Amy,

I really can't add anything else here. You expressed yourself very well and I agree with your outlook.

The replies you have received are fantastic and reflect my own feelings as well.....

There is no ONE path to God.

Thank you for posting your thoughts Amy. I have enjoyed this thread.

Blessings,
Soulfulwings
