What is a Buddha?

I was going to ask what is Buddhism, then realized that the question "What is a Buddha?" is more appropriate. I've been reading How To Live Without Fear And Worry, which is a free Buddhist text, and have been called Buddhist in spite twice that I recall. But what is a Buddha? In the truest sense? Are there beings that call themselves Buddhists even though they are not? Is everyone a Buddha? Is everyone Buddha? How do you realize if or not you are?

i guess a bodhisatva would say "what does it matter?"
the buddha most know of, sidharta guatame, whose story is well known is one of the bodhisatvas.
i believe they are compassionate beings driven to teach others.
in the truest sense? i would say one who shares unselfishly, with joy, to help liberate as many as possible

I agree with Sparkley's definition. One who strives to help others with compassion and empathy. Without judgment.

Compassion. Something I believe there is enough of in existence, yet not enough is activated. It's here, although many don't know how to get it there. I see a connection between the tradition of a single candle spreading light to others. Everything is beginning to line up. 1 neuron fires off, then 2. Then 4, 8, 16, etc.

A Buddha is an enlightened being. Liberated from the obsessive and compulsive processes of the mind. "A Buddha" is a generic term while "the Buddha" refers to the historic Buddha, Siddharta Gautama.
Everyone is a Buddha - potentially, though in this very moment, probably not in actuality.

A few years ago, one thing led to another, and I found this source... http://amitabhaeducationalctr.weebly.com/request-free-materials.html
That's where I got the book "How To Live Without Fear & Worry." Not only are the materials free, Amitabha Educational Centers covers shipping.

I'm fond of a Buddha who refers to the thing as "The Dragon Mind of Zen"!
