To Akragon:

Freemasonary was very common back then: http://www.fairlds.org/Misc/Similarities_between_Masonic_and_Mormon_Temple_Ritual.html

I'm familiar with every thing you have posted by all the anti-mormon people and the anti-mormon sites. And I've gone through a period of my life after my baptism in which because of anti-mormon literature I lost my faith in the Church. Yet I realize now that I was ignorant then by turning to man to grant me wisdom. The events the Prophet Joseph Smith explained i.e. Vision of Heavenly Father and Christ, revelations, are things that can not be dis- proved by man, because if so, Christ's Church would have folded a long time ago, especially being that most of the men, women, and children, were murdered in Missouri as only through the grace of Heavenly Father were they able to make it out west to Utah with no money, food, or shelter, and build His kingdom. The only way to know thruthfulness of this being Christ Restored Gospel is by reading the Book of Mormon and praying and asking Heavenly Father if it is true. If you do so then you'll come to know if it is indeed true. Wisdom, which is what is needed to know if such awesome things the Prophet Joseph Smith has described are true, is something that can only be found through our Heavenly Father (James 1:5).

So you have the same right as everyone else has on this earth. And that is to find out if the Book of Mormon is true by reading it and praying about it- having faith in God, and Christ, with real intent, and a sincere heart, then the truth will manifest itself unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Sorry to say my friend but the Church of Jesus of Nazareth fell back in 336 A.D at the council of Laodicea. They mutilated the gospels, and wrote their own interpretations, leaving out many teachings of Jesus. Theres 80 some odd gospels that could have been included in the bible yet have been left out for some reason or another. Truely at the time the priests of the church had their own agendas. Have you actually read what is considered cannon in the bible? Its filled with hypocrisy and sin as they like to call it. And over the past 16oo some odd years the church has changed it according to whatever they deem fit at that particular time.

Im sorry bro, the church of Jesus fell so many years ago its not even possible to know more then half of what he actually taught, many scriptures were kept at the Library of Alexandria which was torched for some unknown reason. So much information was lost....

Like i said, don't put your faith in one book, look around for truth, and don't believe what everyone tells you...

Find your own truths...

One more thing...did you actually read that link you gave? This person is suggesting, and i quote:
The author of the Web site, Mike Norton, attempts to impugn the integrity of both the Latter-day Saints and the Freemasons by attempting to draw false connections between the two and by suggesting a commonality which simply does not exist...

Yet afterwards he points out similarities over and over again...

To give a few examples...

Beehive
Found in Masonry but also found in the Book of Mormon. It is a nearly universal icon of industry.

Square and Compass
Found in both the LDS temple and among the Masons.

Solemn Assembly in the Temple
This has no Masonic equivalent unless you consider a Grand Lodge meeting to be a Solemn Assembly .... (same thing)

New Name given
Practice is found in scripture (Saul becomes Paul, for example). The Masonic as well as LDS practice comes from the Bible.

Melchizedek Priesthood
Not found in Masonry. (WRONG this is one of the highest orders of Masonry....considered the "high priesthood")

And to end off this artical he quotes....
"As a LDS Freemason I find the similarities reassuring rather than disturbing"

So not only is this person a freemason (admitedly) but obviously he would not speak against his own order...

Again as i've said before my friend, theres nothing wrong with Freemasonry, or the LDS. But again both are people Following with blind faith in another human, not in God.

Good stuff Laodicea, I'm glad I'm here on this board, because you've taught me some things I didn't know. I want to expound on some of the points you made so you and others can understand why the fullness of Christ's Gospel was lost. This discussion is lengthy and worth its own thread, therefore, I am going to create another thread called the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ
